31 Aug & 1 Sep - Thursday, Friday - Orientation

Had to wake up so early to go for orientation. 8.30am at David Strong Building. Was quite excited as we will be meeting new friends and also to get to our timetable. As usual, we went to the place late. Why? We waited at the wrong bus stop again. We have never taken the bus to UVic ever since we shifted. Anyway, we gotten our badges, an orientation pack which consisted more paper and our timetable!

Copy my friend's picture. So that's how our badges look like. Useful to introduce ourselves to the other students. Look at all the flags there. I think they forgotten to get the Malaysia flag as there was only 1 exchange student that came from Malaysia. They just pasted a small flag above the big flags, it is on the ledge in the 4th picture. So sad...

Anyway, we had talks from the Dean, the department head and Mami, who is our in charge. Then, we were splitted into our groups and played scavenger hunt. The fun probably started after scavenger hunt as I made more asian friends and we had a yummy lunch. Beef patty burgers with salad. It was good. We had to fill our burger with whatever sauces and vegetables we liked, then we went to the bbq area to stuff the patty in.

Got to know the SMU exchange students too. Didn't see all 4, only got to know 2. And it was also the first day that all NTU exchange students finally met up for the first time in Victoria so long. Oh yes. Got my timetable too. It looks so disgusting. I thought I applied for 3 or 4 courses but it turned out I had 5 on my timetable. Rebecca was saying that maybe my timetable looked so slack if I have taken 3 courses so Mami added more for me. However, I am going to drop some as I want to take Japanese. My original timetable is 11.30 -1 on mon and thur, then night classes 6.30 - 9.30pm for mon, tue, thur. 2.30 - 4 on tue and thur. So my thur is super pack and I have off days on wed and fri. However, if I am going to take Japanese, I won't get any free days as Japanese is 4 days and each day has 2 hours of lessons. Have to manipulate my timetable.

The first photo below is what we had for dinner on 31 Aug. Roast duck and spinach, delicious! I also learnt that this type of spinach will turn bitter if I cooked it for too long.

2nd day of orientation had even more talks. Like cultural awareness, the school, the business programme, security. Took a picture of the underside of the table. Now we know why gum is banned in Singapore. And we had pizza for lunch, was so hungry as we were waiting for 2 naughty girls who had to find their department heads. Hahah.. 1 slice of pizza is $3.25 and it is really delicious.
